Accessibility Statement

Our commitment to an inclusive website for everyone. Last updated 5 July 2026.

Accessibility is at the heart of who we are. As an organisation that has served children with special needs since 1995, Umeed-e-Noor is committed to making this website usable by the widest possible audience, including people who use assistive technologies such as screen readers, screen magnifiers, and keyboard-only navigation.

1. Conformance status

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, the internationally recognised standard for web accessibility. We treat accessibility as an ongoing effort and continue to test and improve the site over time.

2. Measures we have taken

Accessibility is built into the design and code of this site, not added as an afterthought. Measures include:

  • Semantic HTML landmarks (header, navigation, main, and footer) so assistive technologies can understand page structure.
  • A “skip to main content” link for keyboard and screen-reader users.
  • Full keyboard operability, including a mobile menu that traps focus while open and closes with the Escape key or by activating the overlay.
  • Clearly visible focus indicators on links, buttons, and form fields.
  • Colour choices intended to provide sufficient contrast between text and background.
  • Descriptive alternative text on meaningful images and accessible labels on all form fields.
  • A responsive layout that adapts to different screen sizes and supports zooming and text resizing.
  • Respect for the “reduce motion” system preference, which minimises animation for those who prefer it.

3. Accessibility preferences widget

A supplemental accessibility widget is available on every page (look for the accessibility icon). It lets you adjust settings such as text size, spacing, contrast, and more to suit your needs. This widget complements — but does not replace — the accessibility built into the site itself.

4. Compatibility

This website is designed to work with current versions of major browsers (such as Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge) and with commonly used assistive technologies. If you use an older browser or assistive tool, some features may work differently.

5. Known limitations

Despite our best efforts, some limitations may remain. We are aware that:

  • Some images are currently placeholders awaiting the organisation’s own photographs; final images will include appropriate alternative text.
  • Documents or media provided by third parties may not always meet the same accessibility standards.
  • Where issues are identified, we prioritise and address them as quickly as we reasonably can.

6. Feedback and contact

We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of this website. If you encounter a barrier, or need information in an alternative format, please contact us and we will do our best to help and to put things right:

7. Ongoing assessment

We assess the accessibility of this website through a combination of internal review and user feedback, and we update this statement as improvements are made. This statement was last reviewed on the date shown above.
